To achieve sustainability is to change consumption-Kyoto flea market 2020/12/24

It was Christmas Eve when this article was published. I believe there will be many people who are playing exchange gifts or giving Christmas gifts, but have you ever thought that it will actually add unnecessary items, extra packaging, etc., maybe from this year You can start an environmentally friendly Christmas. But this article is about to introduce Kyoto has an interesting travel mode “visiting second-hand markets”! !

Especially these second-hand markets are mostly combined with shrines and temples, so you can visit these famous shrines and temples when you visit these flea markets.

***The oldest flea market in Kyoto-【Toji Temple】***

This is the second largest flea market in Kyoto. At most, there can be 100 stalls here. It is held here on the 21st of each month. There are not only antiques, but also Kyoto vegetables, sake, clothing and other shops. Of course, not to mention you can visit Toji Temple, one of the World Heritage Sites, and enjoy the antique market and sightseeing spots at the same time!

Date: 21st of every month (It will be carried out as usual on rainy days) 5:00~16:00

Address: 1 Kujocho, Minami District, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture (in Toji Temple)
Transportation: A 10-minute walk from the Kintetsu Toji Station, and a 15-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station

On the 15th of each month, the “Hyakumanben Handmade Market” is held at Chionji Temple in Kyoto. The reason why this market is so popular in many shops is handmade original products (such as food, clothes and groceries). You can find things that are not available in other places. Not only tourists like it, but also locals like to come. Shopping here!

Date: 15th of every month (It will be carried out as usual on rainy days) 8:00~16:00

Address: Chionji Temple, Tanaka Monzencho, Sakyo District, Kyoto
Transportation: A 10-minute walk from Keihan “Demachi Yanagi Station”

***The largest flea market in Kyoto 【Kitano Tenmangu Shrine】***

The most 300 shops will set up stalls here. It is very spectacular, and the reason why I chose the 25th is because Sugawara’s birthday is on the 25th, especially January 25th. The first one, and December 25 is the last of the year, so many people come here to dig treasures every year at this time.

Date: 25th of every month 6:00~16:00

Address: Bakurocho, Kamkyo District, Kyoto City
How to get there: Take a bus from Kyoto Station to “Kitano Tenmangu”station.
