Arima Onsen is the oldest hot spring in the Kansai region of Japan.
It was a healing facility built by Buddhist monks in the 8th century. Located in Arima-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, it has a long history and is known as the “Hipto’s Hinterland”. It is one of the three famous springs in Japan (Gero Hot Spring and Kusatsu Onsen). The water quality of Arima Onsen is rich in minerals. The spring water contains iron salt springs that are about twice the concentration of seawater. It is divided into “Golden Spring” with rust red color and “Silver Spring” with colorless transparent carbon acid spring.
Arima Onsen is located in the northern foothills of Rokko Mountain in Kobe City, about 40 kilometers from downtown Osaka.It takes only about an hour to get there.
